Despite the same policy framework differences between the water sector in European Member States are tremendous. Due to these differences studying water prices requires a specific approach. The German organisation for water and energy BDEW recently published a study focusing on prices of drinking water and waste water in England/Wales, France, Austria, Poland, Germany and the Netherlands.
The European Commission is taking the United Kingdom to court over its failure to ensure that urban waste water is adequately treated in 17 agglomerations. According to the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive European member States need adequate collection and treatment systems for urban waste water.
