The European Commission is taking the United Kingdom to court over its failure to ensure that urban waste water is adequately treated in 17 agglomerations. According to the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive European member States need adequate collection and treatment systems for urban waste water.

NICOSIA - The European Commission and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) announced the completion of the project for the new bi-communal Nicosia Wastewater Treatment Plant.The new wastewater treatment plant was officially commissioned on 8 April in the presence of representatives of the Turkish and Greek communities in Nicosia. A symbolic action consisting in unveiling of the plaque and watering of olive trees with treated water from the plant will follow.
